Play Without Ceasing

“In God’s presence, there is fullness of joy.”  Psalm 16:11

Play Without Ceasing are retreats and workshops designed to help participants engage with God, themselves and others through creative, playful exercises and games.

Based on the principles of theatrical improvisation and spiritual direction, Play Without Ceasing events are structured to invite participants into learning that is interactive, safe and fun, while also being quite profound and moving.

Attendees learn such perspective-changing concepts as:

  • Inviting and Welcoming both stranger and friend (Hebrews 13:2)
  • Paying Attention to God and others (Exodus 15:26)
  • The simple truth about Creativity (Genesis 1:27)
  • Knowing how to Say “Yes!”  (2 Corinthians 1:17-20)
  • The many subtle ways we say “No” and what we miss (Matthew 8:19-22)
  • How to Work Together Harmoniously as a group (1 John 3:11)
  • The power of Telling a Good Story (Psalm 66:16)

No experience is necessary and all personality-types have enjoyed these experiences. Participants simply need to bring a willing spirit and an open heart!

One participant writes of her experience:

Possible Website Photo“Monica’s empowering spirit of play brought me and my fellow “players” out of a so long-imposed shell of seriousness into a freeing environment where we each could re-capture that sense of joy and playfulness together.  As we created free form stories, dances, songs and childhood games, I re-discovered my deep yearning for more creative expression in my life, and through this God has led me into a more “wild” and intimate relationship with him as we create together!”

For several years, I have offered workshops and retreats in churches, seminaries and spiritual direction training programs, sharing the joy and freedom of play, helping others to truly embody the Gospel of Christ. I am currently writing a book which expands upon my workshop and retreat teachings, highlighting how practicing the principles of play can help us grow in our relationship with God, ourselves and others.
